Facing feelings

Page 90

"We may fear that being in touch with our feelings will trigger an overwhelming chain reaction of pain and panic."

Basic Text, p. 30

While we were using, many of us were unable or unwilling to feel many emotions. If we were happy, we used to make us happier. If we were angry or depressed, we used to mask those feelings. In continuing this pattern throughout our active addiction, we became so emotionally confused that we weren't sure what normal emotions were anymore.

After being in recovery for some time, we find that the emotions we had suppressed suddenly begin to surface. We may find that we do not know how to identify our feelings. What we may be feeling as rage may only be frustration. What we perceive as suicidal depression may simply be sadness. These are the times when we need to seek the assistance of our sponsor or other members of NA. Going to a meeting and talking about what is happening in our lives can help us to face our feelings instead of running from them in fear.

Just for Today: I will not run from the uncomfortable emotions I may experience. I will use the support of my friends in recovery to help me face my emotions.

"What Light"

So,
I borrowed Heather's iPod yesterday so I could listen to some new tunes on my way home from work. Knowing I would most likely be in traffic because construction is everywhere...No, seriously, like everywhere!!!!
So, I said to myself
"I am not going to press the next button five hundred times today! Mostly because I was too tired too. But, Yep I am one of those people who always has my iPod on shuffle, but is constantly pressing next because it doesn't matter how great the song is that is playing. I just know a better one is waiting for me somewhere on that playlist of 5, 642 songs. I am going to listen to the very first song that this iPod thinks is what I NEED to hear at this very moment in time"

"What Light" was the first song that started playing and I fell in love from the first tune. I played it over and over and over, with the windows down, sunroof open, (also with heater on high) and the music just blasting! It's insane to me the things I used to take for granted...Just take a listen, it's AMAZING!!!!!

WILCO - "What Light"

What Light

If you feel like singing a song
And you want other people to sing along
Just sing what you feel
Don’t let anyone say it’s wrong

And if you’re trying to paint a picture
But you’re not sure which colors belong
Just paint what you see
Don’t let anyone say it’s wrong

And if you’re strung out like a kite
Or stung awake in the night
It’s alright to be frightened

When there’s a light (what light)
There’s a light (one light)
There’s a light (white light)
Inside of you

If you think you might need somebody
To pick you up when you drag
Don’t loose sight of yourself
Don’t let anyone change your bag

And if the whole world’s singing your songs
And all of your paintings have been hung
Just remember what was yours is everyone’s from now on

And that’s not wrong or right
But you can struggle with it all you like
You'll only get uptight

Because there’s a light (what light)
There’s a light (one light)
There’s a light (white light)
There’s a light (what light)
There’s a light (one light)
There’s a light (white light)
There’s a light (what light)
There’s a light (one light)
There’s a light (white light)
There’s a light (what light)
There’s a light (one light)
There’s a light (white light)
Inside of you

Where have you been? Wilco is one the greatest bands in the world! I've been obsessing over the Avett Brothers new album, you'd love it!

So you mean I'm not the only one that annoys the crap out of anyone so unfortunate to be stuck in a car with me due to my obsessive iPod behavior? I just know my the iPod gods will pull up just-the-right-song that I need to hear RIGHT THEN if I just keep skipping long enough. ;)
